What is a Vessel of Honor?

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 2 Timothy 2: 20-21

During a bible study session, my Daddy was talking about being a vessel unto honor and this phrase stuck with me.⠀

So, for the past couple of weeks, I asked myself this question: What is a vessel of honor? I kept on thinking about what it takes to be a vessel for honor.⠀

So, what exactly does this mean? Well, I did my research and asked the Holy Spirit for guidance, and here's what I learned:⠀

A vessel for honor is a vessel that can be used by God.⠀

A vessel that is sanctified (set apart) to do God's work.⠀

The bible says, many are called, but few are chosen(Matthew 22:14). It also says that the work is plenty, but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:37).⠀

Why is that?⠀

We are all vessels that can be used, but it is our choice whether we want to do what God requires of us to be used by Him. ⠀

This means that we all have the capacity and potential to be a vessel for honor, but the choice is ours.⠀

2 Timothy 2: 19-22 illustrates what a vessel of honor is. ⠀

A vessel of HONOR is:⠀
  • Holy- in thought and conduct⠀
  • Sanctified- set apart to do God's work⠀
  • Useful⠀
  • Available⠀
  • Honorable⠀
  • Dedicated ⠀⠀
This list may seem very daunting and unattainable, but to be honest, it is only by the grace of God that we can fulfill all these requirements. The beauty of it all is that God has made His grace available for us, and that grace is sufficient (Titus 2:11-12).⠀

We just have to be willing because God’s grace is sufficient for us to become vessels of honor. ⠀

🙏🏾PRAYER: Father, make me a vessel for honor in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Until next time, God's blessings always.

Take care!
